Digging In The Vaults

I'm waiting for a package to arrive from my friend Todd who records under the handle Onaisa. I remember doing some illicit remixes of his material back in 2001, without the benefit of being able to use parts of his tracks separated out.

This time around I'm going to be able to get into the individual sounds themselves when working on this as of yet un named side project. I'm excited because these tracks come from a different place than my solo work. It's definitely aimed more squarely at the dance floor...

I was looking though my archives while preparing for my next gig, and ran across this remix I did years ago. The descending bass line still sounds pretty good after not hearing it for years.

Next Gig

I'm finally home! Including the 3 1/2 days of deliberations, the entire trial was exactly a month long. Now I'm trying to get re adjusted to some sort of a normal life. The whole process was exhausting, but satisfying in the end. Now back to the music.

I've been invited to spin my material at a party being held in Toronto in December. Details below:

New party in the works...

Just a head's up to Toronto locals, and for those of you who are afar and might be in the area in December, we've got a new party coming up on Dec 3rd, 8pm-ish, @ The Victory Cafe.
Some of the details are still being hashed out, but we have the location (The Vic), the cause (Daily Food Bank and one of the local Out of the Cold programs) and the entertainment sorted.

We'll have Dynamite Chris and Circe back again, and if you were at the Breast Cancer Fundraiser, you know how these guys can rock it. We'll also have a special guest DJ/artist, Travino, all the way down from Ottawa to spin some fresh blunted beats 'n breaks.

More info to come as we plan things, but it's already shaping up to be a great jam! Put it in your calendar and keep it open.

Hi Red Center

Here is the first track I ever wrote for someone who passed away.

The first time I met Iaian's mom she gave me a hug and a kiss in her kitchen! A total stranger, and it honestly floored me. I think about that moment often.

Iaian made this collage in her memory. His description is below:

"Here's a collage that makes me smile. First of all its dedicated to mi madre. A woman so fantastic that she taught me all the swears in Spanish when I was little. We were sitting in the back of the car and Shawn and Juan were in the front, one long car ride. It's called EL BRILLIANTE CAFE in loving memory of the cafe my mother would take Shawn and I to for lunch (always the Bocata de Calamares) when we would go to the Reina Sofia. I remember saying this as a kid, in Spanish, and my mother and my Tia Sol laughing hysterically."

October Ghosts

The changing leaves aren't so colourful this year. When I was a kid we would often take a trip in early October down to New York State just to see the leaves and camp out in a big trailer my uncle owned in the mostly empty state parks.

My uncle Pat was quite an influence on me as a child. He bought me my first computer, a Commodore VIC-20 for my birthday in 1980. All I had to do was spend the day with him at the Consumer Electronic Show in Detroit that year.

He died almost a year and a half ago most unexpectedly. I wrote this short piece for him.

Fall

It's been a while since I posted.

For the most part, that is due to the fact that I've been selected for jury duty for a trial that has lasted several weeks.

I can say the experience has been both interesting and occasionally horrifying, as it deals with a double homicide.

I've been listening to some older works, and I seem to always associate certain tracks with this time of year. Fall has always meant a time of change for me, and also reminds me in some way of things I have lost over the years.

Here is the first in a series of tracks that deal with loss on one level or another.
